Traveling Abroad - What Clothing To Take - By: Jamal Tenretni, Posted on: 2007-08-23

There are few things as exciting as getting ready for a big trip abroad. Unfortunately, there are also few things more droll then packing for it. If you are getting ready for that big trip, here are some things to keep in mind while packing.

Before you start packing, it is important to gain some perspective. Just because you are traveling abroad does not mean you are leaving this planet. All countries sell some form of pants, shirts and shoes. In short, you can always buy it there if necessary.

Take your favorite clothing that can be worn repeatedly. Don't buy new clothing unless it is absolutely necessary. New clothing is risky for a couple of reasons. It might not be comfortable over longer periods of time. You also may discover you just don't like it.

Never take new shoes on a trip. You are asking for an unpleasant experience in blisters. When you travel, you are inevitably going to be walking more than normal. Make sure you take shoes that are already broken in or you will regret it in a big way.

The most important piece of your clothing ensemble may seem to be underwear, but it is not. Nope. All travelers bow before the altar of the clean socks. Whatever you do, take plenty of clean cotton socks. Your feet will thank you.

Walk through a mall or down a crowded street and you will see some amazing color combinations when it come to outfits. If you are fashion conscious, try to pack clothes that are related to one color such as blue. If you are not, don't worry about it.

Travelers have a weakness for the "mights." They may not have worn a particular piece of clothing for three years, but they pack it anyway since they "might" wear it on their trip. You won't, so don't do this.

You are going to a place with a different view of life, which is pretty much the point of taking the trip. Respect the customs you find. Wear appropriate clothing. Don't enter churches wearing shorts and a bathing suit top.

Daddy was a rolling stone or so the song went. The same should go for your travel clothing. To save packing space, try to take pieces that can be rolled up. Wrinkle free or resistant pants and shirts make a major difference in the size of your luggage.

Packing is a means to an end and nothing else. Keep this in mind. There is zero reason to stress over it. The worst that happens is you will have to buy something at your destination.
